Ever since we started touring I’ve always preferred to go west from my home state of Minnesota. Nothing against the East Coast or the Gulf or the South, I’ve had some wonderful times there as well, but something in me has always pulled toward the sunset. This is not atypical in an American wanderer. Whatever the case, the young, angry peaks of the Rockies, the snow-bound Sierras, the mossy Cascades, the hot and mysterious Zunis, or the lonely Bighorns have always brought me back, head full of wonder, time and time again. I love a good view from the windshield. I would rather drive 6 or 7 hours between venues in the West than 2 hours in traffic between our older cities in the East. Don’t argue with me.
